Are you getting what you want out of your membership? My goal is to make sure that you are satisfied with our society, and with the department in general, and I would therefore love to represent you as General Secretary!
I am currently serving as a first-year representative in the society, and this has given me first-hand experience with planning upcoming events and supporting the logistics of Winter Ball at the door, which has provided me with insights into the organisation of the society. Being part of this team has been great fun and offered an opportunity for collaboration. As a first-year representative my contribution was focused on support, and I now want to take a larger role to make sure the society's internal operations are as seamless and efficient as possible.
I am incredibly passionate about Geography and want to ensure I can use my administrative and people skills, which include strong communication, planning and proactive problem-solving, to continue to make this society valuable to all members, including new and prospective students. We have a lot of good routines already and I would like to lead in developing these further. In terms of departmental liaison, I want to prioritise collaboration between the society and the department, by providing accurate feedback and by guaranteeing your voices are heard.
Ultimately, my highest priority is to make sure you are all supported by the society, through the administrative work the team and I undertake!
I'm standing for General Secretary as I care deeply about expanding the Geography community and ensuring that more engagement takes place. My journey to UCL Geography was honestly an interesting one but one thing that stood out to me was the diverse perspectives within the department and I wish to strengthen that by being part of the society for next year!
Having taken up leadership roles throughout sixth form and secondary, I am highly- organised and detail-oriented which I believe are traits that are essential for ensuring the society runs smoothly behind the scenes. From leading committees and events previously, I have gained valuable experience which enabled me to communicate with people in all years and liaise with external companies. In addition, my experience in managing information and administrative tasks has helped in my work-efficiency and managing many things at once. Having the opportunity to communicate with different departments and individuals, to running offer holder days, I'd ensure the society is transparent in all that we do and run as smoothly as possible. Beyond the secretarial role, I think it is integral to ensure that this space is somewhere which is accessible and friendly to everyone and would love to contribute to strengthening this society's events and ideas for next year- academically and socially!
I’d love to apply for the role of General Secretary for the Geographical Society. I’m really enthusiastic about getting more involved in the department and helping the society run as smoothly and professionally as possible.
I’m naturally organised and consistently keep on top of admin, so I feel confident managing the society’s administrative work. Whether it’s scheduling meetings, keeping records up to date, managing emails, or making sure deadlines are met, I’m someone who likes structure and efficiency. I know how important the behind-the-scenes work is in keeping everything running successfully, and I’d be committed to doing that consistently.
I’m also very comfortable communicating in a professional but friendly way. Working with the Department — especially helping to organise and run offer holder days — is something I’d genuinely enjoy.
I believe I’m very suited to tackling the administrative side, as I’ve got plenty of experience managing lots of moving parts. As Deputy Head Girl, I was responsible for planning large-scale events for my younger peers, which required serious communication and organisational skills, which I’m confident I can apply to this role.
Overall, I’m motivated, organised, and genuinely invested in the Geographical Society and the department. I’d love the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way and help strengthen the connection between current students, offer holders, and staff.
Hi, I’m Izzy and I would love to be your Geographical Society General Secretary!
I firmly believe that the behind the scenes work is the most essential and I would do my best to ensure it all goes smoothly with my strong communication and planning skills which I have strengthened with my time as a Girl Guiding Leader and Volunteer. I greatly appreciated my own offer holders day and the opportunity it gave me to become more aware of the department and society and I am certain that I would be able to maintain the high standard that the Geographical Society functions at!
I would love to have your vote!
I am standing for General Secretary because I am committed to organising successful events for future cohorts and prospective Geography students, fostering a welcoming and positive atmosphere within our society and beyond. I am passionate about representing the Geography Society in an engaging and inspiring way, helping to strengthen and grow our community for future cohorts.
I am enthusiastic, friendly and supportive and I will work hard to create a truly inclusive environment within our society. I strongly value building a sense of community within the Department. During Offer Holder Days, I will develop a warm rapport with students and their families, ensuring they feel reassured, informed and eager about choosing Geography at UCL. I am approachable, welcoming and motivating, and I want to make sure that prospective students feel genuinely excited about what their student life at UCL could look like and feel confident in their decision to choose to study Geography here.
I am a proactive communicator who listens carefully and ensures everyone feels that their voice is heard and actively acted upon. I will respond thoughtfully, always striving to create a supportive environment and working collaboratively with the Department and the rest of the society to foster positive relationships between current and future students and staff.
My aim is to contribute to an engaging and encouraging departmental community where everyone feels seen, represented and valued.
I am standing for General Secretary because I am proactive and confident in professional communication, with experience well-suited to the administrative responsibilities of the role. With three years of volunteering with Girlguiding, I have adapted my communication style to suit different audiences, from writing clear, informative emails to parents and young members to producing termly newsletters and weekly updates. This has required strong organisation, accurate record-keeping, and consistently meeting deadlines. My part-time customer-facing roles at London’s top attractions have further strengthened my ability to communicate clearly and professionally in varied situations.
At UCL, as Copy Editor for the biannual newsletter SHS Scoop, I have refined my written communication skills by adhering to style guidelines and maintaining a consistent tone and quality. This experience prepares me to represent the society professionally when communicating with offer holders and parents at key events. Having attended an offer holder day myself, I understand the importance of delivering a well-structured, and welcoming experience, ensuring prospective students leave with a positive impression of the course and what it entails.
As a current First Year Representative, I am keen to continue contributing my time, liaising effectively with the department, and ensuring prospective students and parents gain a clear, positive impression of UCL Geography from a current student perspective.
