I am standing for Treasurer because I have  experience managing finances and generating funding. As Head of Sales in another society, I generated around £700 in revenue through sales in two months. This experience showed me how important funding is for supporting events and opportunities for members. I'm also very used to cold calling and emailing potential sponsors.

Alongside this, I have helped manage administrative and financial tasks for a small business, including maintaining expense sheets, processing reimbursements, assisting with VAT returns, and identifying and recovering £40K in missing commission through careful financial tracking. These experiences have given me a strong appreciation for clear, organised financial records and efficient documentation.

As Head of Sales at another society, my work was audited. Each month I had to send all files on a client or a sale which reinforced the importance of transparency, accuracy and well-organised financial tracking.

As Treasurer, my goal would be to secure additional funding and sponsorship so the society can run more events (and make sure there is always enough pizza). I would also maintain clear and organised financial records to ensure reimbursements and documentation are handled smoothly.

I would be excited to contribute to the society by supporting both its finances and its events, helping the committee deliver engaging opportunities for all members.

Chloe Chen

Hi everyone! I’m Chloe Chen, the former Editor-in-Chief of Blog of Genetics Society and I am running for the Treasurer position📮.

I am a rising third year BSc Biological Sciences student in the Human Genetics Stream, and I had been a member of the Gen Soc for 2 years. Having previously served as the Blog Editor as well as an active member of the committee, I am very familiar with how things function in the society. As one of the Project Leaders of Zero Food Waste SLP within the Student Union, I’ve gained first-hand experience with Union procedures, budgeting, and financial accountability.

I’ve organised academic conferences, talks, social events, and group trips, which has strengthened my coordination and organisational skills. I’m also detail-oriented and responsible. Personally, I keep clear and accurate records in my money flow with techniques I learned from my dad (he did an econ major🥸). As Treasurer, I would ensure our funds are carefully managed and strategically used to support engaging academic events and memorable socials for all members. I would learn from this year’s experience and aim to secure more sponsorship particularly for refreshments and meals for the events🍕.

I would be honoured to continue serving as a committee member in Gen Soc, dedicating my third year to contribute to more fun and engaging society events that we will be hosting next year! I hope to be able to stay with the amazing members of our committee. Please do vote for me as the Treasurer:)
