Ziyu Han

Hi everyone! I’m Ziyu Han, a Year 1 BSc Biological Sciences student moving into the genetics stream next year. I love genetics, but even more, I love the Genetics Society - it’s my favourite academic society, and I want to help it grow.

I believe Associate Officer is the perfect role for me, as it involves supporting all teams in operations. This aligns closely with my work as Social Media Lead for Friends of GEE, where I promote content for multiple teams, ensuring it communicates clearly and resonates with bioscience students. This experience has strengthened my organisational and communication skills.

As Associate Officer, I aim to:

  • Contribute to making the society more engaging and inclusive, whether through socials, journal clubs or new initiatives that bring members together.
  • Actively gather feedback from society members to ensure events reflect everyone’s interests
  • Assist with the operational side of the committee, supporting teams in planning, coordination, and communicatioN
  • Foster collaboration across teams

I’m excited to contribute to the Genetics Society and help create a welcoming, fun, and inspiring year for everyone involved :))

Ellen Zhang

I am a second-year BSc Biomedical Sciences (Stream 3: Developmental Biology) student, and I have been a member of this society for two years. The lab visits, journal clubs, and conferences have greatly developed my ability to analyse primary research and discuss scientific ideas critically, and now I want to help create those same experiences for others.

In this role, I would work collaboratively with the committee to organise diverse and engaging events, while ensuring members' academic interests and feedback help shape future sessions.

Having benefited so much from this society, I would be honoured to give back.

Khaleem Hasham

As associate officer, I will keep people engaged with the Genetics Society through communication that is clear, engaging, and impossible to ignore. My name is Khaleem Hasham and being a good Associate Officer is in my blood (and my genes). I have a clear plan for the future of GenSoc’s communication through consistent messaging, two-way engagement, and lots of fun!

I will ensure every GenSoc event is clearly promoted and every member knows how to get involved. I will also serve as a reliable point for communication, contributing to keeping the club running smoothly. My goal is to increase participation in our events, from academic events to pub socials, across all year groups. I'll introduce more fun events, interactive group chat engagement, and more post-event feedback forms to shape our future.

Having served as Social Media Officer for the National Honor Society and designed promotional material for Friends of GEE, I understand how structured communication creates participation. Vote for me, and I promise to use this experience to effectively contribute to GenSoc.
