I’d love the chance to be captain of UCLWFC 2s. I’ve been part of the team for the past two years, and it’s one of the most welcoming and supportive groups I’ve ever been part of. It’s a team where I feel completely comfortable being myself, playing football to a high standard, and still having a lot of fun along the way — which I think is exactly what makes the 2s so special.
As co-captain, me and Lucia would aim to carry on the legacy of Ria and Bego (I can’t promise to be quite as loud as Ria lol) by being encouraging, driven and competitive leaders. We'd also lead by example in training and matches, working hard, keeping the energy high, and setting the standard for effort.
Having played club football since the age of 8, I've captained my previous club teams through all my junior years, so I know how important the captain's role is - on and off the pitch. I’d want to be someone my teammates feel comfortable coming to with questions or ideas, and deal with things in a friendly and approachable way. As most of you already know, I’m not shy about speaking up, so I’m always happy to raise ideas about how we can improve on the pitch and strengthen the team.
The only potential downside is that, as the team’s token Northerner, there may occasionally be a slight language barrier... but I’m confident the team will pick it up eventually. If Lucia and I end up co-captains, the team will get the powerful mix of a Northern and Spanish captain - a once in a lifetime opportunity!
Playing for the 2s to me is about being part of a group of people who not only share a passion for football, but also a commitment to being supportive of each other both on and off the pitch. That is why I want to run as co-captain with Meg. I think that together, we have the potential to bring a balance of energy, organization, and genuine care for the team. Having just joined the 2s this year, I know first hand the immense value of creating an environment where everyone feels valued and confident to allow all of us to improve together. For me, being captain is about more than tactics or technical ability. I think what makes a team successful is positivity and determination. This season, I have learned how important it to show up and play every game with the same amount of grit and belief we will pull through, regardless of the score. Because of this, my goal is to lead by example by bringing energy and encouragement every training and every match. I always strive to foster an inclusive and encouraging environment as I believe that is when people play their best football. I also think we should continue the tradition of a Spanish co-captain (shout out Bego). A small warning though, as captain I will never stop suggesting a Sway night for a team outing. Voting for Meg and I means voting for two co captains who will listen and support you while always putting the team first.
