What's good Filsoc, it's me again Michael! I'm back running again this time for the role of Treasurer.
I'm currently a 2nd Year MSci Mathematics with Economics student, and I'll keep it short and simple for you all. Here's why you should vote for me:
- I'm good with numbers (obviously) - with my experience as a maths and economics student, I'll be sure I maximise your utility (basically get your money's worth in plain English). I will always prioritise our Filsoc over others, and ensure money is not an obstacle for anyone who wishes to participate in our events.
- I'm an excellent negotiator - I have managed to bargain and haggle in Philippines without getting charged the foreigner price (my greatest achievement). I will use this skill of mine to ensure we never get lowballed or taken advantage of! My past leadership and management roles have assisted me in financial literacy and expense tracking.
- Adaptability - I am able to juggle multiple responsbilities in my life: degree, chef, tutoring, social life, gym, relaxation (I'm probably on holiday as you read this right now). As a long-time member of Filsoc, I am able to adapt to everyone's needs and ensure we reach a compromise where everyone feels heard.
I'm familiar with all the qualities you need as a tiptop treasurer, and if you have had the chance to get to know me over the past 2 years then I ask that you believe in me!
Let me be your treasurer; you guys are my treasure 😉
Vote for Michaels, not our rivals!
The role of Treasurer is no easy job, and here are some reasons why I think you should put your trust in me to be your next Treasurer!
Working for my family’s Balikbayan box business (iykyk) has given me the essential financial and organisational skills required for this role. Handling customer payments, reconciling daily earnings, and creating Excel collection rotas under strict deadlines has equipped me with the ability to accurately track cash inflow and outflow, which would be imperative when managing budgets for future events.
Having played a role in many communities, I also have the teamwork and leadership skills necessary to be a part of the committee. As a current Youth Creative Ambassador for the Igorot UK Charity, I collaborate to set up cultural events, perform traditional dances, and represent our youth through public speaking.
Extending beyond just numbers, my experience in advocating for students on my school council and volunteering at a care home has taught me how to listen, adapt and build meaningful relationships. These skills could prove useful in helping me secure potential partnerships from local businesses, while also ensuring that I’m a friendly point of contact for any of your questions (finance-related or not!)
FilSoc is a community I care deeply about, and I would love to be able to continue sharing the Pinoy pride as your next Treasurer! :D
