What’s up FilSoc!!
I'm Gael, a 1st year in Social Sciences! Coming from the Philippines, it was honestly scary to study abroad, but joining FilSoc has truly let me feel right back at home in the Filipino community both in UCL and in London. The sense of family in this society is truly unmatched, and I want to do all that I can to give back :)
So why this role? I have always loved having an outlet to be creative ever since I was a kid playing with PicsArt and CapCut, and I can’t think of a better way to harness this but for this role. I’m proficient in a wide range of tools, such as Canva, GIMP, and Pinta for photo editing, and have a constant eye for detail to ensure every material released is as polished as possible. I’ve also made publications throughout my high school life, from the school newspaper or school club ads, and I doomscroll enough to keep content updated with trends. Finally, I follow deadlines and am truly passionate about promoting our culture, ensuring that our page is both constantly updated and culturally rooted.
If I get this position, I plan to maximize our reach on social media, both through consistent Instagram posts for info and recaps, as well as utilizing the TikTok page further to make more entertaining and casual videos with members. I would also ensure that our posters and stories are eye-catching, easy-to-read, and informational, and I aim to make our page inviting to both Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike.
Hope to get your vote, salamat lahat!
I naturally find enjoyment within the splendiferous act of creating content for social media. I have always put in incredibly hard work to edit photos and videos to be as pleasing as possible, with heightened understanding of this generation’s updated trends to ensure interactive and entertaining content. This role of Publicity and Marketing will help me expand such necessary skills and allow UCL FILSOC to appear as BEAUTIFUL online as it is in person. I believe filipino culture deserves more recognition and appreciation, which I will try my best to capture in order to inspire people fall in love with our phenomenal country.
