Filipino Society: Events Officer

I love being part of FilSoc, it brings me a sense of community connected to my heritage in a way that I’ve not previously had. So, I want to carry on this responsibility to again and again, bring people together and continue to provide a sense of belonging and support. As events manager for FilSoc, I will continue to host the events we all know and love such as game night, sports socials and dinners as well as collaborating with other societies and universities to broaden our community. I would also bring fresh ideas to the table ( eg a pub crawl) to increase the range of events we already have as well as try new ones to keep it exciting for new and old members. In addition, I will aspire to maintain the inclusivity and respect that FilSoc shows to all its members and continue to make our society a welcome place for everyone to share and celebrate Filipino culture. 

I believe the role of an Events Officer is defined not only by organisation but also by an equipped skill set that involves creativity and the ability to swiftly resolve problems. I have been able to demonstrate this through my work experience in a care home, where I organised various activities for the elderly, including discussions about newspapers and an arts and crafts stand.

In addition, I held leadership roles during Sixth Form, including Wellbeing Leader and Form Representative, where I represented my peers’ views and contributed to discussions to improve the student experience. 

Furthermore, I have planned my own debut, which involved coordinating with suppliers and managing costs while staying attentive to detail. This experience was informative and taught me adaptability to change and being able to seek alternatives without compromising quality.

A key component of my vision is introducing more themed events, including an Inter-uni 2000s Throwback Fashion Show, in order to showcase Filipino subcultures and increase engagement from members of the society with incentives such as a prize for Best University. 

Ultimately, I prioritise fostering an inclusive environment within our community, and I hope to contribute my ideas to Filsoc! :)
