Hi! I’m Silvia and I’m running for Fencing Club’s Social Secretary! I want to organise more socials for the club’s members!
During Fresher’s week the Fencing Club socials not only ensured I joined the club as a member, but allowed me to make new friends and feel like I had a place in the fencing community. I want to not only provide socials during Fresher’s week, but also throughout the entire year!
It is important to take a break from training, not only for your own wellbeing, but to make connections with other members beyond just the sport. Socials are most important as they allow for deep friendships to be formed, and what’s more, they are super fun! As a beginner/intermediate sabreur-in-progress, socials help me to keep connected to the club beyond my skills.
If I were Social Secretary, I’d organise chill and more intense socials, alcoholic and non-alcoholic socials, for example pub socials or cafe/picnic socials (with free food obviously). I’d also partner with other societies to give the members new activities to try, but my most important principle would be that they are fun and cheap, so that they are easily accessible and enjoyable by all!
I am eager to work for the members to ensure that we can do what they want us to, always striving to keep the whole club happy, and if you vote for me, I will ensure that next year will be so much fun for us all!
Thanks for reading and Vote for Silvia!

I’ve been a competitive fencer for 8 years, and I’ve seen the transformative impact that the social aspect of sport has, both on myself and others. Fencing has given me lots of my closest friends and warmest memories. UCL Fencing has welcomed me as a fresher with open arms, but I thought that there should be more organised opportunities for everyone to integrate into the fencing community, as well as the wider Team UCL community.
Through being social secretary, I hope that I can help develop UCL Fencing, and make sure everyone experiences the power of having a close knit sports team.
As social secretary, I would:
- Increase the frequency of socials
- Improve the mixing of beginners and experienced fencers
- Ensure socials are diverse and inclusive, including non-alcoholic socials and themed socials that celebrate our diverse community
- Increase UCL Fencing’s involvement with the rest of Team UCL, through Sports Night and other avenues
With these goals in mind, UCL Fencing can become a developed and close knit sporting community for every member of the club.
Hello! I am Annelise, you've probably seen me around the Mandela hall far too regularly.
I want to be your social secretary!
Help me to organise fun activities for you! Perhaps a pub night out, or a movie, or a collaboration with another society. I will take any and all suggestions and try to make it into reality. Even suggestions from those who don't do sabre.
Imagine the fun we could have!
Thank you for your consideration.
