As an Emirati student at UCL, the UAE Society is more than just a club to me; it is a home away from home and a bridge between two worlds that I care deeply about.
I am standing for President because I believe the UCLUAE Society has the potential to be one of the most vibrant and impactful societies on campus, and I want to help make that happen. My goal is to build a society that people recognise for the experiences it creates - bringing students together through memorable events, meaningful conversations, and a strong sense of community. Being Emirati, I feel a deep responsibility to represent my country at one of the world’s leading universities. UCL is a place where ideas shape the future, and I want the UAE Society to be part of that conversation; proudly sharing our culture, values, and perspectives.
Above all, I want this society to be an open and welcoming space for everyone. Whether you are Emirati, have lived in the UAE, or are simply curious to learn more about the country and its culture. Through this role, I hope to strengthen our community, celebrate our heritage, and ensure that the UCLUAE Society continues to be a place where people feel connected, inspired, and proud.
When I first moved to London from Abu Dhabi, I couldn’t wait to start a new life, begin studying, and turn a new leaf. However, shortly after coming here, it became abundantly clear that I was homesick. From food to family, it wasn’t the same.
The UAE Society provided a glimpse of home with a community and friendships that I was so incredibly grateful for. Working closely with the committee as Media Officer, I saw firsthand the care and attention to detail that went into making each event special, and I would love the opportunity to carry that forward as President.
Coming from a Scottish-Emirati household, I have grown up surrounded by different perspectives, often through lively discussions at the dinner table. This background has given me an appreciation for diverse viewpoints and the importance of community. I would bring this outlook to the role of President by helping ensure the society remains inclusive and welcoming to both Emirati students and those interested in the UAE.
I hope to help continue building the welcoming community that made such a difference to my first year at UCL.
