Hi everyone, I'm Charlie and I'm currently a first year Computer Science student. Many of you might know me already as the current Head of DJs, where I'm organising and teaching lessons to you guys weekly. I've been a huge fan of electronic and dance music for a long time, having DJ'd for almost 3 years and more recently starting producing. I've been super involved in EMS over the past few months, and I can confidently say, along with many others, that this is my favourite society. Both the incredible events being run, especially the most recent at Electrowerkz, and the plethora of other creative opportunities genuinely make it one of the best society's at UCL.
I'm running for Treasurer because I want to contribute back to EMS, and to continue growing our society both in UCL and amongst the London music scene. For next year, I'm looking to provide more student DJ's with opportunities to play at our events, which will involve increasing both the frequency and size of them. Outside of our club events, I'm also interested in creating more consistent socials and open deck events, as I think they're a great opportunity to bond our community and build new connections in a slightly more relaxed environment. Super looking forward to another year of EMS, and I'd be honoured to receive the opportunity of becoming your Treasurer in the new year.
Best, Charlie.
I'm standing for Treasurer because I genuinely believe the Electronic Music Society deserves an events programme that pushes boundaries — not just in the music we showcase, but in the spaces we use and the people we platform. I am good at organizing and budgeting events since I have done this before. I will pursue every opportunity to get incredible events with a feasible budget.
I've been actively building connections within London's underground electronic music network, reaching out to venues and promoters that most student societies never tap into. I want to bring those relationships to EMS and create events that feel real, not generic — nights that actually reflect the culture we're part of.
What drives me most is making sure everyone in this society gets a fair shot at the stage. Whether you've been here since day one or just joined last week, you deserve the same energy and the same opportunities. I'm committed to building an events calendar where new faces are welcomed, not overlooked.
I work hard, I hustle, and I care deeply about this community. Give me this role and I'll make every event something people talk about for years.
I’ve always been obsessed with UK dance music, but I’ll admit I was a bit hesitant to dive into the community at first. However, I was immediately struck by how welcoming everyone at EMS is and the sheer number of shared interests we all hold. That support actually led to me playing at Venue MOT and Electrowerkz alongside some incredible DJs—an absolute honour. Now that I’ve seen the society's impact firsthand, I’m ready to step up as Treasurer to make sure EMS continues to flourish.
As Treasurer, I’ll manage our finances to back everyone from total beginners to advanced DJs. By keeping our DJ lessons running and pushing the new controller rental scheme, we can lower the barriers to entry and help everyone grow. Plus, I’ll prioritise inclusive budgeting to make sure we stay a diverse, supportive space where every member feels they can hone their craft. Ultimately, I want to manage funds in a way that maximises enjoyment for all members and keep that thriving, high-energy atmosphere alive for every one of our upcoming events.
The Treasurer’s job is also key for building partnerships with external groups and other universities, which is how we get our members onto new platforms. I’ve got the analytical and creative skills to make that happen, where I’ll be reliable with the day-to-day spending and strategic with our budget to keep our events, and our community, moving forward.
I would very much like to repay the kindness EMS gave to me and grow alongside this community.
