Akhila Bandam

I’m standing because I believe good intentions matter, but good intentions paired with evidence, humility, and action can matter far more.

What draws me to effective altruism is that it asks a simple but demanding question: how can we do the most good with the time, money, and choices we have? In a world that often rewards “I, me, myself,” I want to help build a culture that reminds us we can still choose impact, reason, and compassion.

As an MPA student in Climate Innovation and Sustainability at UCL, and through my work in politics, public service, and development, I’ve seen how important evidence, prioritisation, and cost-effectiveness are when real lives are at stake. Caring is essential, but caring well matters too.

If elected President, I would use my experience as a campaign strategist to make effective altruism more accessible, more visible, and more actionable at UCL. I want to create stronger conversations, thoughtful campaigns, and a welcoming community that helps students connect big global problems to everyday decisions whether that is career choice, giving, research, or advocacy.

I’m standing because I want this society to be more than a space for ideas. I want it to be a space that helps people act on them.
