I’m running for Welfare Officer because I want the RDR Society to be a space where students feel supported, connected, and able to engage with the important but heavy topics we study.

As a Global Humanitarian Studies student in the Department of Risk & Disaster Reduction, much of our course focuses on crises, disasters, and humanitarian response. While these topics are fascinating, they can also be intense, so I think it’s important that our society also creates space for community, wellbeing, and relaxed social connection.

If elected, I would focus on:

Regular relaxed socials - organising events like coffee catch-ups, cupcake decorating nights, and casual pub socials so students can meet people across different RDR courses and year groups

De-stress events during exam season - hosting study break sessions with snacks, tea, and quiet study spaces so people can work together and unwind during busy periods

Wellbeing events and low-pressure activities - things like picnics, career events for people who are unsure of what they want to pursue and yoga to give people a break from studying and time to chat and explore beyond our curriculum

Joint socials with societies like Friends of MSF - events such as documentary screenings or humanitarian discussion nights followed by relaxed socials
