Caitlyn Ovens

I am standing for President of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarianism Society because I genuinely care about the work this society represents and the potential it has to make a difference. As a second-year Global Humanitarian Studies student, I have developed a strong academic interest in disaster risk reduction and humanitarian response, and I would like to help create a space where students can explore these issues in a practical and engaging way.

Disasters and humanitarian crises affect communities around the world, and I think it’s important that we not only learn about them in lectures but also discuss them, apply them, and connect them to real-world contexts through society activities.

I want to focus on making the society accessible, welcoming, and active. This could include organising informative events, skill-building workshops, and opportunities to connect with professionals or volunteer locally. I believe small, consistent efforts can have a meaningful impact, and I would like to help the society grow steadily and sustainably.

I am also standing because I enjoy working with others and helping ideas turn into reality. I would aim to listen to members’ suggestions and make sure everyone feels encouraged to get involved.

Overall, I see this as a chance to contribute positively to the society and support its continued development in a realistic and collaborative way.
