I remember my first debate so clearly. I was barely fourteen, walking into a uni debate club, scared shitless, and somehow made to argue about tariffs (I had no idea what they were!). Seven years later, I’m running to be President of UCL Debate.

Debate has given me some of my closest friends, endless curiosity, and skills I use every day. The epic highs and lows of debating have yet to tire me. Now, it feels right to give back, one last time.

A society that builds community and wins tournaments. That’s the UCL Debate I want to lead.

I’ve been building debate communities for years. In HS, I set up my national circuit from scratch. At UCL, I served as VP in T1, running public debates with other societies and law firms, and launching our collaboration with Access@UCL. As Convenor, I run all UCL competitions, working closely with committee to make them happen. I’ve represented UCL at major competitions, including Worlds & Euros, building strong relationships across the international circuit.

Training: skill-focused workshops, inter-uni sessions, materials shared on the GC.
Public debates: high-profile events with firms, embassies, and external speakers.
Competitions: grow UCL tournaments’ prestige, fund international comps, offer spars.
Community: socials (not just pub), drunk debates, merch, strong WGM support... and bring back Yakka!

Your vote would mean the world to me– and to that terrified kid who never imagined where debate would take her. Let’s build something great next year! <3

Like many of us, I only really started to debate properly in university. That unorthodox journey is why I care so deeply about accessibility. I am proof that starting at university is not an unrecoverable disadvantage, but an opportunity to grow.

As president, I’d prioritise:

  • Making debate accessible through collaborations with public speaking charities
  • Pushing more public debates with external speakers, increasing visibility beyond debate circles
  • Running our competitions well so we have a stronger budget
  • Making systems like competition slotting more transparent, widening speaking and judging opportunities
  • Running a wider variety of socials
  • More varied training sessions, including in-depth presentations by members on interesting topics

I’ve done quite a bit for the society, and have accrued a unique skillset to accomplish these goals, notably:

  • Chief Adjudicator of Autumn Cup & UCL Pro-Am (only remaining UCL student with experience)
  • Served as training officer, delivering workshops and running our weekly training sessions, currently our only consistent events
  • Competed at Worlds & European Championships, along with 40+ tournaments
  • Collaborated and volunteered with social mobility charities Access Debate & Debate Mate

I’m known in the community as passionate, dedicated, and able to balance the competitive and social sides of debate. I’m also here every week, so feel free to find me at sessions to chat.

I care deeply about where this society can go next, and I’m ready to lead it there.
