Sophia Nanthakumar

Hi everyone! I’m Sophia - and if there’s one thing about me, it’s that I love a good social! (particularly one where I get to dress up – the sillier the better!!).

Since coming to UCL, I have made so many new friends and memories through various different socials and it’s safe to say they have been one of the best parts of my uni experience. From Wednesday Sports Nights (yes I have 100% attendance and have featured on the Scala Instagram four times) to celebrating everyone’s hard work at post show socials and just chatting before and after rehearsals, socials have brought dance soc together in so many ways. I’d like to think I’m approachable, friendly and welcoming and I would love to be the person creating and sharing these moments next year.

I’d love to bring even more variety to socials: more themed Wednesday nights with challenges to complete, joint socials with other sports teams and more non-drinking options like group trips to Pineapple/Base dance classes, Just Dance/movie nights, and trips to watch dance shows around London. I’m also super excited to plan dance tour, but don’t worry I promise I will not drop my phone in the ocean again oops!

Whether it’s helping new members settle in, making sure everyone feels included, or just being a familiar face in the crowd, I’ll be there to make every social welcoming and fun.

Lucia Messett

Hi, I’m Lucia and I’d love to be one of your Social Secs!

My favourite uni memories have come from Dance Society, so I’d love to help create more of those moments for everyone. I was Social Secretary in Sixth Form, where I organised prom, fundraisers, a cabaret, and other seasonal activities. This year, being part of the TD Prod team helped me understand the behind-the-scenes of a larger-scale event, and after my events summer internship, I’ll be prepped and primed for the role.

I’d bring a mix of BIG FUN nights alongside non-alcoholic socials so there will be something for everyone and every mood ;). I’m organised (a big fan of a colour-coded calendar), and I’m excited to work with a partner in crime. I want the socials to feel welcoming, smoothly run, and something you can always look forward to.

See you Wednesday night!

Being part of Dance Soc has been such an amazing and thrilling experience. Through doing dance classes, shows, and, especially, attending the socials, Dance Soc events have always been the highlight of my Uni experience so far, making me become a more confident and creative person. And that is why I would like to run for Social Secretary, because for me, Dance Soc has always felt like a family, a place to let loose, feel supported and express myself without judgement, and I would like to carry this feeling and atmosphere forward within a leadership role.

Having had previous experience in leadership roles, I pride myself on strong communication, time management and leadership skills, therefore taking on this role with meticulous and professional detail and attention, ensuring that the Dance Soc calendar is well organised and financially sustainable, and handling logistics so that both small and large scale socials are engaging, creative and most importantly fun! Thriving specifically in a team, I would say that I will take particular priority in listening, communicating and cooperating with ideas and suggestions with not only you (everyone within the Dance Society), but also the rest of the Committee team to assist the growth of one of the biggest and vibrant societies in UCL. So my goal is to help create a year of socials that bring people together and make Dance Soc feel like home for anyone and everyone.
