Right now, someone over at Imperial is already planning ICHack 27. Let’s do better than them.

This year, UCL CSS has had an incredible run of events, and next year we are looking to do even more including but not limited to: CV roasts, career talks, interview prep sessions, socials, workshops, and of course our flagship hackathon, HackLondon. We’ve brought together students from all years and backgrounds to build cool projects, learn new skills, and get a real taste of what it’s like to work in tech.

I’m nominating myself for Head of Operations because I want CSS to run smooth, feel organized, and be packed with events from Freshers’ Week all the way through to HackLondon 27. This year showed how much potential we have and I want to keep the ball rolling.

As Head of Ops, my focus will be simple: make it friction-less to run good events. That means planning things early, securing big new sponsors, keeping things organized with frequent updates to all our members, and of course, be the best tech society in London.

I’ve organised Modern TechQuest, a national competition. I designed the event structure, managed sponsorship, planned timelines, managed participant flow, coordinated volunteers, and adapted quickly when things inevitably changed during the day. It gave me a good understanding of how much planning and communication is needed to run technical events properly. I was also involved in running my school’s Chess Society and helped organise internal competitions and club activities. That role involved managing budgets, coordinating tournaments, recruiting mentors and reaching out to reputed players and arbiters. I also helped run a summer chess camp, where I organised sessions and mentored younger players.

At UCL, I’ve been involved with the organising team for the RealTech Hackathon. I’m also an academic rep for this year, where I act as a link between students and the department, helping coordinate initiatives and address student concerns.

As Head of Operations, my focus would be making sure the society actually runs well week to week, not just planning good events, but making sure they’re organised properly from the start. I’ve spent a lot of time on the logistics side of things and in each case, the difference between a stressful event and a great one usually came down to preparation: clear timelines, defined roles, and someone making sure no details are missed. I want to bring that same approach here and make sure our events run as well behind the scenes as they do on the day.

I’m applying for Head of Operations because I want to give back to the community in my course, helping create more opportunities for people to get to know each other, whilst also developing technical skills.

I think I'd be a good match for this role in particular, as I’ve done a lot of operational and admin work through student leadership at school, so I’m used to organising events and projects, making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
