Macie Barnett

Hi Strike, my name is Macie and I’m excited to be running for captain this year. Joining Lightning has completely made my UCL experience. As a commuter student, cheer holds a particularly special place in my heart as it was one of my only opportunities to meet new people, and I have since made some of my best friends through the club. Lightning has helped me to fall back in love with a sport, so I want to give back to the club, to help ensure that others can also have a memorable experience.

Throughout my time at UCL I have engaged in a range of extracurricular commitments which have helped to shape my suitability for this role. Most notably, having worked as a transition mentor, I have fostered leadership and communication skills, which I feel would serve me well as captain. Furthermore, having previously held roles such as head girl, I am comfortable speaking to large audiences and confident in taking a proactive role in a team.

As captain, I seek to establish a safe space for all athletes and create a close knit team with a strong work ethic. To do this I plan to :

  • Arrange regular team socials that are accessible for all members, including team dinners after training, and fun activities, such as team pilates!
  • Ensure a rewarding and supportive atmosphere in training
  • Hold themed trainings
  • Working closely with coach and committee to ensure a successful season
  • Recognise athletes of the month

I care a lot about this team and I would love the opportunity to help lead it!🎀💕
