Cancer Charities Alliance Society: Volunteering Officer

I nominate myself for the Volunteering Officer position at the Cancer Charities Alliance Society, drawing on my background in cancer research and organisational experience. 

As the son of an oncologist, cancer shaped my worldview early. When my grandfather had non-small cell lung cancer, I grasped the importance of early diagnosis and access to healthcare. 

That conviction drove my bioinformatics research on the MAPK signalling pathway in breast cancer and my work beyond the lab. Volunteering at an Alzheimer’s centre, I saw patients falling through gaps not from lack of resources, but lack of access. In response, I co-founded a free online health literacy platform and a popular science community spanning fifteen cities across Turkey.

As Volunteering Officer, I would bring this same approach to the Alliance. I aim to strengthen cancer volunteering through clearer communication, broader outreach to underserved populations, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Cancer touches every community, and I intend to help ensure support does too.
