Grace Tjandra

Hi everyone, I’m Grace, a first‑year Management Science student running for Client Relations.

In high school, I founded and led a Social‑preneurship Club where I worked with global non‑profits, launched a school merch line, and raised over $2,000 for charity, which meant negotiating with vendors, managing expectations, and keeping partners updated. As Outreach Director at Compass 4 Careers, I set up the Non‑profit Network Initiative, coordinated with 120+ organisations, and acted as the first point of contact between founders and external partners, chasing replies, setting up calls, and making sure collaborations actually moved forward. These experiences made me very comfortable with cold outreach, follow‑ups, and maintaining professional yet warm relationships.

If I become Client Relations VP, I want to help secure high‑quality sponsorships and partnerships that genuinely benefit members, not just look good on a slide. That means being persistent and proactive with outreach, tailoring pitches to each firm, and looking beyond just banks and consultancies to include a diverse range of employers. I also want to make sure our sponsors feel valued and looked after so relationships are sustainable: clear communication, smooth event coordination, and thoughtful touches that make them want to work with us again.

I’d be really excited to bring my experience in client‑facing roles, pitching, and writing to work with the rest of the team to broaden our network and opportunities.

I am standing because I have really enjoyed being part of the UCL Business Society as a member this year, and I'd like to contribute more actively to its growth. Over this academic year, it has been immensely rewarding to see the organisation's reach and stature grow firsthand through events like the Impact Investment Championship Event and various coffee chat events with notable alumni, and I aspire to push the society's reach even further as a prospective VP of Client Relations of the UCL Business Society. Through helping out with certain tasks at these events, as well as through my coursework and involvement in other societies, I have developed strong organisational and collaborative skills. If elected, the core message I would like to convey as a VP for Client Relations is a structured, disciplined outlook on managing alumni relations, while making active, period engagments with various UCL alumni to accelerate the society's growth.

I’m nominating myself for VP of Client Relations because building genuine relationships has always been the part of university life I value most. Having completed the UCL Foundation Year before starting my degree, I have had the chance to experience the UCL community from different perspectives and understand how important connection and belonging are, especially for new students. This year, serving as a first year Client Relations Representative and taking on a student representative role has strengthened my communication skills and taught me how to listen, represent others’ needs, and create positive collaboration between people. Through these experiences, I have learned that strong relationships do not come from simply networking. They come from being approachable, reliable, and consistent in how you support others. If elected as VP, I want to use that mindset to strengthen our partnerships, create more meaningful opportunities for members, and help build a society where everyone feels comfortable getting involved. My goal is to make client relations feel more human, focused on trust, long term connections, and a community that people genuinely want to be part of.

I am standing for VP of Client Relations because strong relationships with firms are what turn a society from a student community into a platform for real opportunities. Through taking part in consulting case competitions, DECA competitions, and strategy simulations, I have worked on business problems where teams present recommendations to judges and industry professionals. In those settings I saw how valuable it is when students can interact directly with people working in consulting, finance, and industry. Because of that experience, I want to focus on ensuring partnerships within the Business Society lead to meaningful engagement for members. Through workshops, networking events, and firm-led sessions, partnerships can create spaces where students learn directly from practitioners while developing their own ideas. If elected, I would work to expand the society’s network of industry partners while ensuring that each partnership contributes something tangible to members. By maintaining strong relationships with organisations and coordinating closely with the rest of the committee, I would aim to create opportunities that allow students to develop skills, gain exposure to different industries, and engage more directly with the professional world.
