Book Club: Treasurer

Hey everyone :)

My name is Sophia and I would love to be your treasurer this year! I started becoming active with book club this past year and I really love the community we've built together. As treasurer, I will ensure pizza deliveries are prompt and I will help plan us fabulous socials (I do actually have some experience with this as well as I was social sec for the largest student publication at UCL this year). I can't wait to see y'all next year at book club and thanks for voting!

I am running for Treasurer of the UCL Book Club to gain hands-on experience managing budgets and finances in a real-world setting. As a UCL Laws student aspiring to pursue commercial law, financial literacy is essential, and something I am keen to actively develop (alongside my literary literacy, of course).

While not everyone in Book Club may share my enthusiasm for dealing with numbers, I genuinely enjoy maths and would love the opportunity to reconnect with it beyond secondary school. The Treasurer  role offers the perfect balance between analytical responsibility and contributing to a society I value deeply.

From the very first meeting organised in September, I found Book Club welcoming and sociable – I even met one of my closest friends at that meeting. The sense of community is something I would love to help sustain and strengthen. By managing and allocating funds responsibly, I hope to support a diverse range of events that make the club inclusive, engaging, and memorable. 

I also bring relevant experience: I spent three years on the Student Council, and in my final year as President, I was directly responsible for budget management. This has given me practical experience in financial oversight, accountability, and organisation - all key qualities in a Treasurer. I am committed to ensuring that ticket prices remain accessible so that Book Club continues to be welcoming to everyone.

On that note, our two favourite “F” words: Finance and Filiz – vote Filiz for Treasurer!
