I’m running for Social Secretary, mainly because I’ve realised something important over the past two years in this club: rowing is only about 10% rowing and 90% Pintsss!!! And I think I’m uniquely qualified for that.

Over the last two years, I’ve been a very committed member of this club. I’ll never get to Gunnersbury more than 10 mins before an outing; nonetheless, I'll be first on the couch at sports night. If the club tracked sports night attendance the way it tracks erg scores, I’d be recruited for UL.

It was the amazing Dan and Ella, and their impeccable chairing of circle that kept me in RUMSBC and I hope to do the same with the next wave of novices. I can’t promise I can organise a Nov Men 8 outing, but I can promise their attendance at sports night.

And while I fully respect this club’s strong and historic relationship with pints, I also want to make sure our socials are inclusive for everyone. Not every social has to revolve around drinking, so I’d also organise things like crew dinners, games nights, and other events where people can actually remember the evening the next day. The goal is just to make sure everyone in the club — whether they’re there for the rowing, the socials, or somewhere in between — feels welcome and wants to be part of it.

So if elected, I promise I’ll finally learn the rules to circle… and make sure any coach driver we get understands that rowing performance is directly linked to post-outing hydration.
