Election post
I would like to be the inclusivity officer for RUMS boat club because it is a role very close to my heart. Growing up in a small, predominantly white, British city made it hard for me to feel included sometimes.Through my experiences, I have been able to understand the intricacies of what inclusion really looks like. The deeper meaning behind inclusion and equity is very important to me and highlighting where these qualities are lacking is needed in order to create a thriving community in our club.
I loved attending the BAMExPRIDE panel talk. It was great to hear so many different stories from inspiring people in rowing. This panel made me aware of just how non-diverse rowing can be at a professional level, something that I had not thought of before taking an interest in rowing. To dive deeper into this would be one of my projects as an inclusivity officer.
Sometimes inclusion can be a struggle to get right but I am prepared to face that struggle and deal with it in a controlled and productive way. Everyone can feel left out sometimes, so if I were to get this position, I would make it my duty to ensure every individual continues to (or begins to) feel like they have a place in RUMSBC.
I hope you will consider me for this role!
