Over the past year, it has been a privilege to serve as President of the UCL Society of Biotechnology during its most transformative period.
When I took on the role, the society had around ten members and had not run a single event. Since then, we have rebuilt it into an active community of ~100 members and delivered 25+ events across academia, industry, and social engagement.
We launched our flagship Lightning Lectures series featuring leading researchers across biotechnology, followed by our Inside Industry series with speakers from companies including AstraZeneca, Takeda, GSK, Notpla, Outpost Bio, and Meatly. We also organised careers events, lab tours such as our visit to Hoxton Farms, partnered events with other societies, pub socials, and introduced new initiatives such as iGEM to position UCL students on the global stage.
Beyond events, this year has been about building foundations for long-term success: establishing industry relationships, creating repeatable event formats, and fostering a strong committee culture.
As Executive Director, I want to ensure continuity so this momentum is not lost in transition. Having led the rebuilding phase, I can provide institutional memory, strategic guidance, and support to help the next committee scale what we have built while pursuing new ideas.
I care deeply about the society and would be honoured to continue supporting its growth in an advisory capacity.
