Melissa Tiganus

My name is Melissa, I am a second year Politics and Sociology student running for President of BBI, a community I’ve been actively involved in since my first year at university, first as a Research Member and now Marketing Manager. Since joining the committee, I have successfully tripled our media engagement and collaborated to publish our policy journal.

This year, I co-founded UCL’s UN Women Society and served as its first Treasurer. As part of the inaugural committee, I wrote the constitution, managed finances, and ensured compliance with UCL procedures. During periods of uncertainty, I stepped in as President, chairing meetings and coordinating logistics to ensure stability. These experiences have equipped me with both strategic and practical skills needed to lead effectively.

If elected as President, I pledge to:

  • Connect members with experts across relevant research fields, delivering tailored skills workshops with opportunities for meaningful Q&A.
  • Expand our social calendar from relaxed community-building activities to professional guest speaker sessions.
  • Lead with structure and transparency, ensuring committee members feel supported and work in a collaborative framework.

I have a strong understanding of how UCL societies operate and am confident in my ability to lead responsibly and inclusively. I want BBI to remain intellectually stimulating while also being welcoming to all members. I would appreciate your vote, and I hope to see you next year as your President :)
