Founded in 2020, the Bentham Brooks Institute (BBI) is the first student-led think tank based at University College London. We aim to bridge the gap between academic research and public policy, giving students the opportunity to tackle some of the world's most important challenges.

Through our flagship Research Programme, members collaborate in teams to produce high-quality, peer-reviewed policy papers featuring practical recommendations and evidence-based solutions. Outstanding research is published in our annual journal, providing students with a valuable platform to showcase their work.

Beyond our Research Programme, BBI offers a wide range of exclusive events for all our standard members. These include our flagship Policy Crisis Competition, delivered in collaboration with LSE and KCL, skills workshops delivered by professionals across a variety of research fields, and networking opportunities with leading London-based Think Tanks and policy institutions.

2025 – 2026 Research Themes:

  • Conflict and State Building
  • Democratic Deficit and Authoritarianism
  • Global Health and Safety
  • Green Growth and Sustainable Development
  • Refugees and Migration
  • Social Justice and Equality
  • Technological Risk and Governance
