Louisa Higgins

Hi UCLWB! My name is Louisa and I’ve had the pleasure of being one of the social secretaries this year. Next year, I hope to step up to the role of Welfare Officer. As I’m heading into my third year with UCLWB, I’ve seen how much this club creates friendships, confidence, and helps form a safe and fun place for people to enjoy this sport, but I also know how balancing university life and sport can be overwhelming.

The combination of balancing training and matches with academic pressure, social life, and financial pressure can be difficult, and I want to be someone within the club that members feel comfortable to turn to for support. Before university, I was president of a wellbeing club, where we focused on creating open conversations around mental health and support. That experience, alongside my time on committee this year, has shown me the importance of a welfare officer who is visible, proactive, and approachable.

If elected, I would continue weekly wellness check ins and frequent anonymous feedback forms, make sure we have exam study sessions each term, and make sure everyone clearly understands both what I can offer as Welfare Rep and what the Students Union can provide regarding support. I will be there to help signpost the right services, check in regularly, and advocate for welfare issues in committee meetings when needed. Ultimately, I want to ensure that every member, new or returning, feels included, supported, and safe within UCLWB!
