Arts for Mental Health Society: President

As president of the ARTSMH society, it is my aim to provide a safe artistic space free from the distractions of the surrounding world. Not only do I want to host events where members can leave their anxieties at the door and thoroughly enjoy the process of creation, I also want to employ the current well-established platform to better explore the intersection between art and mental health by inviting experts, going on artistic excursions and publishing researched articles on our webpage. I would also like to do more collaborations and workshops with other societies to give members opportunities of engaging with different art forms that are not traditional but equally as nurturing or calming. Furthermore, I have plans to incorporate more BYOC (bring your own craft) events and to set up a suggestions box where members can propose events that they would like to see hosted(as long as they are feasible). Overall, I would like to cultivate a society that simultaneously fosters wholesome and stress-free art-making for all the members and meaningfully interfaces with and/or informs of academic literature regarding art and psychology. As the former research officer, I already possess some experience and insight into how the society is to be run and I am confident that I can adequately take up the mantle with the support of and effective coordination with the rest of the committee members.
