Aidan Tiede - AI Society Treasurer
Second-year MSci Physics at UCL. German, Dutch, Chinese. I've been building AI systems since school, starting with my chess piece object detection model where I dedicated a month to collecting thousands of pieces of training data. This very experience equated AI development with GRIT, a trait I will be relying on as treasurer. At the same time, I was serving as the student financial representative on my school's governing board, auditing institutional budgets and liaising with sponsors. Finance and AI have been intertwined as for me from the start.
Right now I'm with Nexus Labs, AI society research arm, developing Physics-Informed Neural Networks to solve the Heston stochastic volatility PDE for options pricing. I'm familiar with society events as a member
On the financial side: Finance Officer at two major organisations: Europe's largest MUN conference (80k EUR Budget) and a school governing board (1.5k students, Student Council Budget of 5k EUR). Responsibilities included full financial statements, auditing institutional expenditure, and securing sponsor funding for events.
What I will do:
Transparency — Regular public financial reporting. Every member knows where the money goes.
Inter-university events — Smarter budget allocation to fund the conferences and collaborations that promote UCL AI Society.
I bring both sides: technical credibility within this community and proven treasurer experience.
Vote Aidan Tiede.
As Treasurer of Robotics and Head of Development of the AI Society, I've managed finances and understand how both societies operate. I'm running for Treasurer in AI Society to bring financial discipline and strategic funding to enable our growth.
Financial Management: I've successfully run the Robotics treasury. I'll apply those same rigorous practices here, transparent budgeting, proper allocation, and accountability. Every pound will be tracked and spent with purpose.
Smart Sponsorship: Securing sponsors is critical. With my experience across two technical societies, I know what companies value and how to pitch partnerships. I'll actively hunt for sponsors to fund our ambitions without compromising our independence.
Purposeful Distribution: Money means nothing if it's not deployed strategically. I'll ensure funds directly enable our society to run smoothly, supporting events, workshops, competitions, and initiatives that matter to our members. No waste, maximum impact.
Enabling Growth: A well-funded society is an ambitious society. With proper financial management and sponsorship, we'll have the resources to grow without constraint. I'll make sure finance never becomes the bottleneck to what we want to achieve.
