As a person who seeks to understand, and help others understand the intricacies and nuances of the art business world, I believe that being welfare officer would provide me the space and opportunity to help members of art business and the associations we work with feel supported and engaged enabling us to fully experience every aspect of what the society has to offer. Good welfare in this society means that members who may come outside traditional art degrees or backgrounds, whether they study STEM subjects, law, or human sciences like me, never feel like their perspective is invalid. The art industry can feel daunting and exclusionary to even those passionate about it, and I believe i would be a visible and approachable presence reminding members that they belong here. I think I would be a good candidate as I know what it feels like to occupy an interdisciplinary space. Thus, it has made me attentive to people in the room who seem uncertain or on the periphery. Hence, I seek to make all feel included, while collaborating with other committee members to maximise the opportunities given to members and ensuring that everyone makes the most of the activities initiated. Moreover, my friends often come to me when they are struggling, and I take that trust seriously as I am a natural listener, solidifying my ability to attend to those who need it, and notice when something is off without it being said out loud.
