As a postgraduate student in the MSc Clinical Mental Health Sciences programme at UCL, my training focuses on understanding mental health through rigorous research and evidence-based treatments. Alongside this, I am deeply interested in the emerging role of psychedelics in mental health care and in how they intersect with biological, psychological, and cultural understandings of illness. Through my coursework in medical anthropology, I have become increasingly interested in how psychedelics exist beyond evidence based treatments to also how it exists within cultural traditions that shape how people experience illness, healing and consciousness. I am nominating myself for Outreach Officer because I care deeply about bringing these interdisciplinary conversations to a wider community. Through my experiences leading mental health initiatives in India within my own NGO, through conducting research, and building youth communities, I have developed strong skills in outreach, collaboration, and event organisation. My vision is to expand SAP’s outreach by creating spaces where students from psychology, neuroscience, anthropology, and the social sciences can connect with scholars from different fields and engage critically with psychedelic research and the ongoing discourse. I hope to help build a community that explores psychedelics not only as potential treatments, but also as powerful tools for understanding the relationship between culture, consciousness, and healing.
