Eshal Islam

Hi, I’m Eshal Islam and I am a second-year Economics student. If elected as Welfare Officer, my goal is to build a society where every member feels included, supported and comfortable asking for help. As a relatively new society, we have the unique opportunity to actively shape the culture we want, and my hope is to build one with a strong sense of community.
University can be an isolating experience, and it is easy to feel behind. As Welfare Officer, I want to normalise conversations about academic stress, imposter syndrome and career uncertainty. You do not need to have everything figured out to belong in this society.
Which is why I aim to:
Establish Welfare Check-Ins throughout the academic year
- This includes spaces to chat over coffee, as well as anonymous feedback and suggestion forms so everyone has a chance to make their opinions heard, even if they prefer to stay anonymous.
Hold casual socials to help create a strong sense of community
- This could be as simple as holding group study sessions during exam periods to create a motivating atmosphere during a stressful time.
Emphasise the importance of physical wellbeing to improve mental wellbeing
- Another great way to relieve stress is through outdoor activities and I would like to organise inclusive run clubs and collaborations with sports societies to create an outlet for members to unwind.
I am determined to also simply be a friendly face on campus that everyone is comfortable to approach for support or just a quick chat!

Lena Jin

Hi, I'm Lena Jin, and I'm a first year Mathematics and Statistical Science student and I am applying for the Welfare Officer position in the Actuarial Society.

While my degree focuses on numbers, my priority as Welfare Officer will be the people behind them. I know firsthand that balancing a demanding degree with career planning can be extremely stressful. I want to ensure that every member feels supported, included, and heard.

I want to be the friendly face that newcomers feel comfortable approaching, whether they need someone to talk to or have questions about events. In my previous role as Deputy Head Girl, I learned how to be a listening ear for others while also developing the leadership skills. I was known for being approachable and kind, and I want to bring that same energy to this committee.

I am organised, empathetic, and ready to listen. Vote for me, Lena, to keep our Actuarial Society a caring and supportive community.
