Election post
Hi everyone! I’m Yoko, a first-year History of Art student running to be your next events director. Having grown up in Hong Kong and studied in the UK for the past five years, ABACUS immediately resonated with me as a diverse space where different cultural identities connect within a welcoming community. I truly value the society’s ability to bring people together to have fun and create unforgettable memories.
Throughout high school, I was actively involved in MUN and debate, taking on leadership roles to organise meetings and guide team discussions. As a member of the European Youth Parliament, I collaborated with international teams on large-scale conferences centred on cross-cultural dialogue. These experiences strengthened my confidence in coordinating teams, communicating across cultures, and executing events successfully.
I also genuinely enjoys the social side of university life. I spend a lot of time exploring different events and venues across London, so I’ve naturally become familiar with the people and energy behind the scenes. I’d love to bring that perspective into ABACUS while keeping our events organised and intentional. If elected, I would also focus on strengthening London ABACUS ties and creating a balanced mix of larger events and smaller, more personal gatherings.
I want ABACUS events to be the kind you look forward to — and the kind you actually remember. I’d love to play a part in building the kind of year we’ll all look back on fondly.
