Denise Eke

Hey everyone!

I’m Denise, a second year Applied Medical Science student, and I’m excited to announce that I’m running for Welfare Officer!

University can be overwhelming, and societies provide a much-needed escape. Volleyball helps us stay active, meet new people, and de-stress - but sometimes that’s not enough. Balancing workloads, feeling included, or knowing where to turn to for support can be tough.  We all need someone to talk to, and that’s where I come in.

As Welfare Officer, I’ll ensure every member - whether a beginner, social/ academy player, or on a competitive team - feels heard, valued, and supported. I want to create an environment where issues aren’t just acknowledged but actively addressed, making our society inclusive and welcoming.

Since joining volleyball last year, I’ve experienced the struggles of being new, trying to improve, and finding my place. I understand what it's like, so as your Welfare Officer, you can always feel free to approach me for support or a chat.

Through my experience as a student mentor and hospital volunteer, I’ve developed strong listening skills, deep empathy, and patience. Helping others feels like second nature, and offering advice is something I genuinely enjoy.

If elected, I’ll always be available to listen, support, and take action. I’ll introduce meaningful initiatives to ensure our society feels like a true community for everyone.

I’d love your support – vote for me and let’s make things better together!

Jane Nikulina

Hello! I'm Jane, a second-year medical student, and I'd love to be your Welfare Officer next year!

Since joining UCL, volleyball has been a huge part of my life, and I want to give back to the community by ensuring that every member feels supported, valued, and heard.

Welfare roles in societies often feel invisible, but I believe they play a vital role in driving positive change in the community and require time and effort from the respective officers to do so. As a current RUMS welfare representative, I’ve gained the skills necessary to make welfare more present, accessible, and impactful—and I’m eager to bring these efforts to volleyball.

Some of the things you can expect if I get elected:

  • No matter how big or small your concerns are, I will always be available to listen and support you. I am committed to addressing welfare issues head-on and fostering an environment where everyone, from beginners to experienced players, feels safe, included, and empowered.
  • I aim to implement welfare strategies that have worked well in other societies: mentorship/family systems to help new members integrate more easily, as well as drop-in events for casual, open conversations about general well-being.

Your well-being matters, and I’m committed to making a real difference. With your support, we can build a vibrant and nurturing environment where every member of our volleyball society thrives.

See you around!
