About me:
Hello, I am Sanchithaa, currently in my 3rd/4yr of my Mathematics course. Since, I am going into my final year, I thought taking up a Tamil society committee role will be a lot of fun as it is something I have always wanted to do since I enrolled myself at UCL.
Why cultural rep?
As a person who has grown up indulged in the Tamil culture, I have a lot of admiration for our culture. Having the privilege of being able go to Tamil school has yielded to my fluency in the language and enabled me to experience & appreciate the huge sense of community that the culture brings. Additionally, watching Tamil Cinema and Tamil Tv shows throughout my life has allowed me to be deeply intertwined with the Tamil language and culture. These are some of the reasons that drive my passion of showcasing our culture.
What I would do as a cultural rep?
For the Tamil society, I would like to bring a comfortable space so that UCL Tamil students are able to learn about our culture in more depth. This includes holding regular Tamil classes from the beginning of the year; celebrating the Tamil festivals such as Thai Pongal, Puthaandu, Deepavali etc; running educational lessons about our roots on a regular basis which would open up a curiosity in university students to learn more about our culture.
I hope that my reasonings and my aims through becoming cultural rep has become clear through this manifesto, and please do vote for me if you would like to see me as cultural rep next year!
