Taekwondo Club: Welfare Officer

Hello! I’m Silvia, and I’m a second-year History student. I joined UCL Taekwondo at the beginning of first year with zero martial arts experience. Over the last two years, this club has taught me a lot, both about taekwondo and myself, and has been the place where I have and continue to make some true friendships. 

My experience serving as your General Secretary last year has been extremely rewarding. It has been a privilege to have had the chance to work closely with fellow committee members to support the club both as a team and as individuals. Over the last year, I have learned what it takes to run a society like UCL Taekwondo, as well as the different demands required of various committee members, which has taught me how to assist them so that they can better support you next year.

For me, the best part about UCL Taekwondo isn’t in the quality of our training or our consecutive wins, but in the positive energy and sense of community which welcomes all and creates a true family. Going into my third year, I am conscious that I will get busier academically, but I would still love the chance to continue giving back to this team by designing new events to foster inclusion and community. This team is so special because of the people in it, and it would be a privilege to be able to continue caring for the members of this community, ensuring your physical and mental well-being so that UCL Taekwondo continues to be a safe space to train, have fun, and make new and lasting memories.
