Teni Afolabi

As a current junior committee member, I have been able to engage with SIHS beyond the role of a consumer, or participant and it has brought great benefits for both me and the society. As the only non-medic in the committee I was worried that my insights and perspectives would not be important but I have now learnt that my contributions are meaningful because inclusion health can never be fully conceptualised or understood through one approach/ discipline or perspective. Furthermore, my studies, experiences and aspirations are significantly aligned with the society in regards to health inequality. I am very grateful for this society for the opportunities that its provided for my personal and academic growth and the opportunities it provides to health exclusion groups. I would like to continue this work so that these opportunities reach more people with more positive impact. As welfare officer, I hope to embody the principles of the society that I already passionately believe in, whilst also fostering my caring inclination to ensure the wellbeing of members and associated parties.
