Throughout medical school, I have been passionate about improving people's health and wellbeing beyond standard clinical practice, recognising the major impact of non-biomedical factors. Studying for a Medical Anthropology intercalated BSc this year has deepened my understanding of the social determinants of health and structural violence, and I have greatly appreciated how this society provides both guidance and opportunities to apply this knowledge in a meaningful way.
Beyond my enthusiasm, I have developed strong organisational skills that make me well-suited for the role of secretary. As a junior research and publishing lead for the Institute of Medical Ethics Student Committee, I have honed my ability to manage tasks proactively and contribute towards team goals. Additionally, for my dissertation, I have independently coordinated interviews with various professionals, balancing logistical challenges with professional communication. These experiences have reinforced my ability to manage responsibilities efficiently, a key aspect of the secretary role.
I have also greatly enjoyed being part of the SIHS Junior Committee and assisting with this year’s conference. I am eager to contribute to this society's continued growth, helping to create a space where students feel empowered to drive meaningful change and advance health equity.
