Dear committee,
I am writing to express my enthusiasm for becoming the women’s team captain.
Squash has been a huge part of my life since I discovered it at 13. From the moment I stepped onto the court, I found not just a sport, but a safe place—a cocoon where I have created friendships, had my fair share of crushes (too many, honestly, lol), shared unforgettable laughs, spent some of my best afternoons, and released all my anxiety. More than anything, I found a family.
From the beginning, I promised myself to work as hard as possible to reach the best level I can—and to pass that passion on to others. There is nothing I love more than sharing squash with friends, introducing people to the sport, and helping them improve. (I even convinced four friends to get memberships—proud flex!)
Being the only young girl at my club in Paris for a while, I can’t explain how happy I am to now be part of a team with other young players who share the same passion. I love organizing social events and would be excited to bring our squash girls to Phineas on Wednesdays, doing fun dress-ups like other teams. I also think we need some fresh squash merch—I won’t lie, I was a little jealous of how cool the other teams’ gear looked.
I would love the opportunity to represent and support this team as captain, both on and off the court.
Sincerely,
Daniela Maruani
Over the past three years, I have developed a deep passion for squash, and my love for it has only grown since joining this warm and supportive community at UCL. As a committed team member, I have one of the most match appearances this season and proudly represented UCL at Warwick. Through these experiences, I have come to appreciate the dedication, perseverance, and teamwork that define us. Inspired by our achievements this past season, I am motivated to lead our team to even greater success.
My Vision
- Every member of our team should feel valued and have an equal opportunity to play, regardless of experience level. I will promote open communication, mutual respect, and a positive atmosphere where everyone can enjoy playing squash! I will also organize social events so we can bond off the court and strengthen our team spirit :-D
- Strengthening our competitive edge – Our team is strong and has incredible potential, and I aim to drive us further with focused, efficient training tailored to both team and individual goals. I am committed to attending every match, supporting my team members so we can perform at our best.
Why Me?
- I am approachable, encouraging, and dedicated to supporting everyone on the team.
- I am organized and proactive, ensuring smooth coordination of trainings and matches.
- I am passionate about our team's success and truly believe we have what it takes to win the cups next year!
It would be an honor to serve as your captain – Let’s make this season one to remember!

Hello everyone!
My name is Abi, and I would be honoured with the opportunity to become Women’s captain. My experience in the team this year has been one of the most rewarding aspects of starting at UCL. Whilst thoroughly enjoying being back on the court after a while, I have particularly appreciated the thriving team environment in which each player is motivated to enhance their respective abilities.
I understand that a captain’s role extends beyond individual performance - it entails fostering team spirit, celebrating the successes of the team, and inspiring confidence in each member.
Furthermore, I can offer a strong sense of organisation and responsibility by attentively organising fixtures, socials, and travel arrangements to ensure smooth communication which respects each voice in the team.
The chance to have a role in strengthening the team, both on and off the court, would be immensely rewarding - I would be grateful for your vote! x
