Sebastian Dedman

Dear UCL Space Society,

I’m so excited to apply for Events Officer because, despite studying Politics and International Relations, my love for space and astrophysics is orbital! From black holes and exoplanets to asteroids and asserting that Pluto is NOT a planet, I’m always looking up - both metaphorically and literally.

As a member of the space society since 2024, I have suggested a range of thrilling events, such as the trip we took to the Lightrooms to see Tom Hank’s ‘Moonwalkers’ and the talk we witnessed on planetary defence!

As Events Officer, I’d launch an exciting calendar of activities, including trips to Herstmonceux Observatory, a stargazing camping adventure, and space-themed pub quizzes (because who doesn’t love a pint with their planetary trivia?). I want to bring together space enthusiasts from all backgrounds, making events fun, inclusive, and accessible - whether you’re a seasoned astrophysicist studying profusely to become the next Issac Newton or (like me) just love contemplating the vastness of the universe and our place within it.

With strong organisational skills, enthusiasm, and a passion for bringing people together, I’ll make sure every event is a blast (without the rocket fuel). Let’s make this year stellar - vote for me, and let’s explore the cosmos together!

Clear skies,

Seb (PS vote Olivia for president and Ryan for communications officer!)
