Hi, I’m Selin, a second-year student, and I’m running for Treasurer because I’m passionate about making snowsports more accessible, affordable, and inclusive for everyone.
Snowsports Society has been the highlight of my university experience, and I want more people to get involved and experience everything this community has to offer. However, many of my friends, especially those who have never skied, are put off by the cost. I want to change this perception and ensure financial barriers don’t stop anyone from joining.
Recently, I came across an event offering free ski lessons for International Women’s Day. I shared it with friends, a few of whom were able to learn to ski for free and this demonstrates how awareness and promotion of opportunities can make a real difference. As Treasurer, I want to actively seek out and advertise similar initiatives to help more students get involved.
I also recognise that everyone has different schedules, making it difficult to be an active member throughout the year. That’s why I want to implement flexible membership options, so students can participate at a level that works best for them.
For our society to grow and thrive, it needs a well-managed financial foundation. Having a diligent and responsible treasurer who can confidently oversee its finances is essential, and I believe I can fulfil this role by ensuring transparency, securing funding, and efficient budgeting.
