Dear SSEES-enthusiasts,

After an amazing year as SSEES’ Communications Manager, I am attempting to continue my reign. Reflecting on this year on SSEES committee, there are so many standout moments. One I hope you all remember was SSEES-Mas!, which left me unable to talk about anything else for circa 8 weeks (ask my flatmates). Masterminding, hosting and organising SSEES-Mas! was so unbelievably fun that I decided then and there to run for President!

As your 24/25 Communications Manager, I have a proven record of excellence and competency. Over this year, I have:

  • Organised 5+ events (including SSEES-Mas!)
  • Boosted society membership via social media, the Welcome Fair and the Cultural Fair
  • Bought all of the wine!
  • Built institutional partnerships with 30+ cultural and political societies in London and beyond!
  • Lobbied SSEES senior management to bring back Martin as permanent SSEES security
  • Managed all of our social media, resulting in a 250% increase in engagement
  • Responded to every single DM on @sseessoc

But what would my Presidency look like? What I can promise you:

  • SSEES-Mas! 2025
  • My top-secret plans for a  black-tie SSEES Ball…
  • A huge new donation drive and humanitarian aid fundraiser for Ukraine
  • A bigger and better-than-ever SSEES Society!

As Polish Society's 24/25 Treasurer, I have an in-depth understanding of the Union. Therefore, as your President, I can step into the role ready to lead and succeed from day one!

If you would be so kind, lend me a vote. You won't regret it ;)

Yours,

Yoonha Lee

Hello all!

I’m Yoonha, and I’m running to be your next President of SSEES Society!

I'm Korean by birth and British by nationality, making me an unconventional pick. While I may not have direct Eastern European heritage, I study Russian and German, which has given me a truly deep appreciation for the languages, histories, and traditions of Eastern Europe.

I served as a Student Academic Rep for SSEES Languages and Culture courses during my first and second years, working closely with students and faculty to ensure voices were heard and real changes were made. I want to bring that same energy to our society—creating a community where everyone feels included, whether they have personal ties to the region or are simply passionate about learning more.

The committee has traditionally been made up of those with Eastern European backgrounds, a common thread that I don't share—but I see that as an opportunity. I truly believe that my international perspective will help broaden the society’s reach, bringing in more people who are interested in the region but might not have felt like they belonged before. I want to celebrate the diversity of SSEES and make sure everyone feels welcome—whether that’s through cultural events, academic talks, or just fun socials where people can connect.

If you want a President who is committed, approachable, and eager to make the SSEES Society even more engaging and inclusive, I’d love your support.

Let’s make this an exciting year for the society together!
