Salsa Society has been the heart of my first year at university, and I’m running for Social Secretary to help create even more unforgettable experiences for our community. As someone who started as a complete beginner, socials gave me the confidence to put myself out there, and I want to encourage the same growth in new members. For existing members, I know what makes a great night out: student-friendly deals, accessible venues, and a welcoming atmosphere that keeps people coming back.

I’ve attended nearly every salsa social, from Phineas jazz nights and IOE hangs to Flow, BOS, and Salsa Temple. Being part of the winning bachata team also deepened my involvement in the society, allowing me to connect with regulars and understand what makes socials enjoyable and well-attended. My friends will tell you I never stick to personal time limits when it comes to socials- if I say I’ll leave early, I’ll always end up staying because I love the energy and the people.

Beyond salsa, I’ve been a First-Year Rep for GovPolSoc, where I successfully promoted freshers’ events and encouraged participation in many socials. This experience has made me comfortable juggling responsibilities and making sure events are clearly advertised and well-attended.

If elected, I’d organise a mix of salsa and non-salsa events, from student-friendly nights out to relaxed pub meetups, ensuring there’s something for everyone. I love this community, and I’d be thrilled to help make next year’s socials even better!

I’m Rawleka, and I’ve been HOOKED on salsa for 3 years! If we’ve met, there’s a good chance I’ve already tried to convince you to join me at a social! 💃🕺As your Social Secretary (and former Student Union Officer), I’ve helped organise:

🔥 4 FREE salsa workshops

🔥 Birmingham trip

🔥 BOS and Salsa Temple socials

🔥 Salsa ball

Hailey Wilson

Hello! My name is Hailey, and I am running for social secretary of the Salsa Society because the vibrancy and passion of the Salsa Society is one that I would love to dedicate myself to. I have fallen in love with Salsa, and would be thrilled to be a part of the side of the society that helps keep everything running. As the social secretary, I would be able to organize social events that capture much of the excitement of salsa, alongside the community that is formed whilst dancing. I would love to give back to the Salsa society as I can, and being your social secretary would allow me to help the society grow and flourish alongisde the community. Vote for me, and allow me to help us dance the night away for many evenings to come.

Mu Lan

Hiii everyone! I'm Mulan and I'm running for the Social Secretary role!

I tried a Salsa Society taster class during Freshers' Week and was instantly hooked—guess salsa and bachata just have that effect on people! Since then, I’ve been a regular at our weekly classes (showing up very enthusiastically every time), but what I look forward to the most are the socials. What better way to put your new dance moves to the test than by dancing the night away with your fellow salseros and bachateros?

I go absolutely crazy for a good Salsa Society social event—even if I have an important assignment due the next day, you’ll 100% see me there (unless I’m deathly ill). Therefore, I completely understand the need for good and frequent socials. As Social Secretary, I’ll make sure our internal and external socials stay as vibrant and exciting as ever, keeping up the amazing work of those before me.

Let’s keep the energy high, the dance floor hot, and make sure our socials are always spicy enough to keep everyone coming back for more! 🌶💃🔥
