Candidates

Louisa Chibane

HELLO! My name is Louisa Chibane and if there's one thing I love more than running...it's running for a good cause. Why am I the best candidate for Community Outreach and Events Officer? Three reasons: I have the WILL, the EXPERIENCE and the CREATIVITY!

As someone who has volunteered at food banks, protests, charity shops and with sports coaching,-helping others and giving back to the local community is integral to my life. Therefore I am totally comfortable, committed and passionate in taking up a role like this. An exciting part of this role is also to collaborate with other societies, which I'm sure my communication skills and friendliness will easily and enthusiastically facilitate.

I’ve completed multiple half-marathons and 10Ks for MSF, muscular dystrophy research, local hospices, and children’s charities. Last year, I was part of the RAX London Landmarks team for Mental Health UK, and I loved the group effort behind a shared cause. This year I want to expand race support, offering guidance/starting discussions about training plans and race preparation to reassure half-marathon newbies, avoid injuries before the big day and make those PBs!

Some event ideas I’d like to bring to life:
🧠 Running-themed quiz (history, science, celeb rounds) with QuizSoc
📺 Athletics watch parties
🌍 Plogging trips (jogging + litter-picking) along the Thames

VOTE LOUISA CHIBANE, THE WHOLE CHIBANG!

Nina Bentham

I would like to put myself forward for this role, as moving away and starting university has been a massive challenge for me. I was really worried about making friends, and it took a lot of courage for me to attend my first RAX session as I hadn’t competitively run since early secondary school and only ran casually for my own mental and physical health. From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel welcome and supported, and I cherish the way everyone is so encouraging, whether you compete at the top level or are just starting out. Some of my fondest and happiest memories of my first year have stemmed from my time at RAX; no matter if I am running/competing or just spectating and cheering, I am having fun. Most importantly, I am eternally grateful for the friends I have made through RAX and all the inspiring people I have met. My first year wouldn't have been nearly as fun and exciting without RAX.

Specifically, I want to stand for community outreach and events officer, as I wrote in my Year Six leavers book that I wanted to run marathons for charity and I would love to work as part of a team to achieve this and encourage others to do so as well. I’m excited by the chance to add to the community at RAX and work as a team to raise money for charities related to RAX's values. I am also looking forward to branching out and working with other sports clubs within UCL, and further RAX’s reputation as being the best and most friendly club.

Thank you

Sara Terracciano

Hey guys, I’m Sara and I would love to be your Community Outreach and Events Officer this year!

Being part of the Brighton Half team for Sport in Mind showed me how much I enjoy fundraising. From bake sales to fun runs, we loved bringing ideas to life, and I can't wait to do even more of that with next year's half marathon team. I've got some ideas up my sleeve too — post-run homemade pancakes and breakfast muffins for a few ££ anyone?

I'd also look forward to organising charity runs throughout the year. By teaming up with other societies and universities, we can get more people involved and boost donations. My past involvement with RUMS and Imperial College has given me some connections to hopefully help with this.

Alongside fundraising, I'm really keen to arrange some volunteering socials for RAX members who want to make a hands-on difference in the local community. I've previously volunteered with amazing foundations like the King's Cross homeless night shelter and Sufra Foodbank, and I know they would be incredibly grateful for groups of uni students willing to lend a hand.

Finally, I love any excuse to dress up — and saying "it's for charity" is probably the best excuse :) My stash of glitter and face paint is on standby! And most importantly, my inflatable dinosaur costume can’t live under my sofa forever…

Thank you!

Lots of RAX love, Sara

Angus Xu

My name is Angus and I am a first-year Politics and IR student. Over the past few months, I had a fantastic experience participating in different activities and competitions that RAX has offered; these include the BUCS XC, getting lost in LUCA Wimbledon, Sunday long runs, track, and most enjoyably, the social runs where I got to talk to a diverse bunch of people and had lots of fruitful conversations. Therefore, I want to run for Community Outreach and Events Officer. I want to give back to the best running club I have ever run in and promote a greater cause for society. Social awareness for the vulnerable in society is crucial, not everyone is as fortunate as us to enjoy the life and resources we all have taken for granted. Therefore, raising money for charities is a key foundation for helping marginalised groups and providing monetary support to organisations with a good cause for a better society. I have experience in collaborating with several charity efforts in high school, including hosting an inter-house gaming competition with several other friends which raised £1500 for the charity Teenage Cancer Trust, which supported teenagers who unfortunately suffered from cancer. Therefore,  I am confident that I am capable of leading the organisation of fundraising runs and the outreach aspect whilst collaborating with other UCL sports clubs. I look forward to the challenges ahead of me in this role and am willing and able to serve.
