Aarav Prabhakar

As I am now concluding my first year of medical school, I’ve been given the opportunity to reflect on the invaluable guidance provided to me by my older peers. I was made to realise the impact a great mentor  can make and is something I aspire to be. If I’m able to become the academic Vice President, I will endeavour  to represent student voice and make changes for the benefit of the RUMS community but also act as a beacon of support for anyone who requires it. I hope to make a positive change but I can only do this with your help.

I would hope to organise meetings with staff in order to discuss student feedback  to effectively implement appropriate measures to improve student experience.

In addition, I would like to organise revision days similar to the prior year to support students in exams, especially first year students who may need support in tackling exams they are unfamiliar with.

Thank you for reading and I hope together we can make a positive impact.

Joseph Eaton

Being an academic representative for 2 years, I’ve been heavily involved in the academic aspect of RUMS, but I’ve also seen the challenges in implementing change. As academic VP, I would have a greater influence to make the changes that are suggested, and it would give me the opportunity to expand the current work being done, such as the RUMS tutorials. My main aim is to bring in more OSCE teaching earlier on in the year within the RUMS tutorials each term, and to continue my work from C&B to make content taught with more clinical applications as opposed to just theoretical concepts. I’ve been the rep for both C&B and NSB, two of the biggest modules, which has given me the incredible opportunity to hear from so many of my peers about what they want to change, and whilst I’ve tried to bring that in already, being academic VP would give me even more leverage to make a difference. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time working on the academic subcommittee, and with the experience I’ve accrued, I believe I am the person who can make a lasting impact on RUMS academics as academic VP.

Charlotte Lai

Fresh out of the trenches of the February formative, my understanding of our collective challenges, frustrations, and gaps in academic support has never been sharper. I’m Charlotte and, as Academic VP, I’m determined to push for tangible, meaningful changes that not only address these issues but also encourage open communication and collaboration within RUMS.

From serving as a two-time Academic Rep to helping with Freshers Week on RUMS Events Subcom, I’ve gained invaluable experience working closely with both faculty and our diverse student community; this positions me confidently to bridge this gap, ensuring your varied opinions are effectively represented and translated into real, impactful improvements.

As your Academic VP, I would:

  • Launch a RUMS Year 2 Mock CPSA with no societal affiliation, ensuring everyone can experience the format, attempt realistic stations and gain feedback ahead of the February formative.
  • Create a centralised calendar for tutorials/workshops in collaboration with RUMS/academic medic societies - no more scrolling through the year-chat spam!
  • Build on the success of RUMS Tutorials with more refinement based on your feedback.
  • Rebuild the Treasure Trove with up-to-date, medical school-compliant resources based on student input.
  • Reboot the RUMS Academics Instagram with regular updates, offering transparency on how reps and faculty are actioning your feedback.
  • Push for all LT1 lectures to be subtitled with live captions, improving accessibility and note-taking.
