Guillaume Valansot

Rare FM has connected me to vast numbers of friends at university and holds a special place in my heart as a community. It is so nice to have an environment of like-minded people, whether thats enjoying a little boogie at their Corsica nights or hanging about with mates at socials. For this reason I am applying to be a part of the comittee in 2025!

Why head of events? As a DJ and owner of a small promoter, I believe that I will be well equipped to deal with event organisation for the year of 2025-2026. I've organised a series of parties at locations including Night Tales and Dalston Den already. I've curated the lineups and dealt with most of the admin, for this reason I believe I am suitable for this role.

I promise to do my very best in organising the events and working with the rest of the comittee and am excited to see what the future holds for this society.

I'm grateful to be considered for this position and would strongly appreciate your vote!

Sofia Robyn Mallozzi McCamley

I am standing for head of events of RareFM for many reasons, but primarily for my passion for radio and my belief in the importance of grassroots student radio. I hope to expand the world of RareFm through a wider range of events in different genres and spread awareness of the society. I hope to incorporate more live events into the RareFm socials, bringing more UCL talent to the forefront of the music scene.I feel that RareFms close relationship with EMS is amazing, but we could so easily bring more genres into the spotlight with specific nights celebrating different genres. I am personally very passionate about Londons live indie and rock scene and feel that more coverage of this could expand our lister network to not just UCL . Furthermore, I hope to encourage more girls, non binary and trans people to get into Radio and DJing, i feel that both EMS and Rare are still quite male dominated and with more inclusive events and awareness i hope to get more people involved. Additionally, i think that on our socials, we could promote a playlist by a different presenter each week, this way members and non members alike will always have something new on the radar regardless of whether they tune in regularly. I have a real passion for radio and i am an incredibly sociable and open person, thus i feel that with my addition to the leadership we can simultaneously improve the society, make more people aware and passionate about Rare FM and have way more fun in the process!

Maria Do Mar Valente De Almeida Sineiro Vau

My name is Maria do Mar and this is my 3rd year at UCL! Rare has a very special place in my heart, it is a community that has received me with open arms and helped me feel at home. It was where I not only developed a new, and at this point indispensable, hobby, but also made friends and explored my creativity and passion for music. This is what I want to continue to promote as part of Rare's committee, for both old and new members to have a safe space to share their love for music and meet like-minded people!

Having been Rare's Treasurer this year, I know how crucial events are to our society. I would continue to collaborate with other societies, both within and outside of UCL, and radio stations/events collectives in London, to put together club nights or radio guest shows, and expand our listenership. I would also expand our collaborations with other members of the creative community to organise more mixed media events. Another goal would be to  increase the number of charity events, by doing marathon live streams or events where tickets sales are donated to a charitable organisation. Lastly, and in collaboration with EMS, I would continue to ensure our events champion a space for Rare DJ's at club takeovers and other similar events.

It would be incredible to be back on committee this year and hope you vote for me !!

Hrydai Bedia

Over the past few months, I have massively enjoyed being involved in RareFM and hosting a show, it has opened up a number of opportunities for me as a DJ and I have improved significantly as a result of having access to this creative space to practice. This is why I am excited to apply for the role of Head of Events for RareFM, combining my passion for music, event planning experience, and vision for a more diverse and inclusive events programme. I understand how important it is to curate spaces where different genres and communities can thrive. My work alongside an events photographer to help organise his debut exhibition, gave me first-hand experience in fostering collaborations across creative disciplines. One of the key reasons I am applying for this role is because I believe there is an untapped opportunity to diversify the society’s events offering. While the current focus on House, EDM, and electronic genres has been great for building a core community, I know there is a huge demand among UCL students for events that celebrate other genres such as hip-hop, amapiano, afrobeats, and dancehall. These genres represent vibrant cultural movements that resonate with many students, and I am committed to creating events that cater to this wider audience. If elected, I will work to diversify the society’s events, while maintaining the community that RareFM has already built through its dedicated team that has made the society such an important part of the university’s nightlife.
