The idea of ‘speaking in public’ might sound intimidating to some, which I personally relate to a lot. Being part of the society this year has been a rewarding journey as I have learned to express myself more and speak about my passions. Moreover, in my role as Marketing Officer, I have been actively promoting the society by creating engaging visuals.

To further my journey, I aspire to reach a wider audience through social media, conveying the message that public speaking can be fun, and to encourage more people to find their voice and become their true selves on stage. As a mediator between our members and the committee, I hope that greater involvement can be fostered among members by enabling them to actively contribute their ideas on shaping their experiences during their time in the society.

I believe that with my experience and aspiration, the society can grow into a larger community at UCL, bringing more people on board to embark on this journey to shine and thrive together.

Vanessa Burmeister

Hi everyone, I’m Vanessa, and I would love to be your marketing officer for the upcoming year.

Every session in public speaking always brings me fresh challenges and takeaways - tools that can be applied in so many other areas! I want to contribute more to our society by increasing engagement and making public speaking an accessible, rewarding experience for everyone.

What this means: Increasing engagement through social media and collabs with other societies, giving members more opportunities to speak in UCL’s programs/showcases/panels, and creating fun content like tips from experts and behind-the-scenes glimpses into our events.

With experience in event promotion and society leadership, I’m keen to strengthen our community and make it even more accessible, engaging, and impactful.

Hi everyone! ┻┳|・ω・)ノ

I’d love to nominate myself for the Public Speaking Marketing Officer role. I’ve attended nearly every session since the start of the year and have really enjoyed being part of this community. With my experience as a student representative and involvement in various projects throughout high school, I understand how to engage people and promote events effectively. I’ve worked with data visualization and digital design tools like Canva and Figma throughout my course, which have helped me understand how to present information in a clear and engaging way. I believe I can use these skills to showcase what makes the Public Speaking Society’s sessions valuable, whether through social media or other outreach, and help it reach more people who could benefit from it—just as it has for me and many others.

I genuinely believe it’s a great community for anyone looking to practice speaking more, and I would love for the opportunity to contribute and make public speaking more accessible for everyone!
