My family and I are active members of our local Nepalese community in London (Burnt Oak Nepalese Community). My family and I have helped organise and hosted many different events for the community and therefore I have a lot of transferable experience organising events, which I would bring to the role. Given my connections with different Nepalese communities in London, I would look to potentially partnering with them to organise socials and widen the society’s outreach. I am proud to be Nepalese and would like the society to host more frequent events, such as game nights, pub crawls, club nights, and weekly chai meetings, to foster a greater sense of community between Nepalese UCL students. I would also like to have more intercollegiate events to establish a stronger network of Nepalese students in London. The Nepalese society should also be a safe space where Nepalese students can share our culture with non-Nepalese students and I would like to place a greater emphasis on this. Lastly, there should be more opportunities for society members to provide feedback on events and socials to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard and members are getting the most they can out of the society.

Girish Kharal

I'm already currently the President of the Nepalese Society and would like to run again for another term. I have really enjoyed having the opportunity to bring together the members of our society and wish to extend my responsibilities.

I hope to keep running successful events such as momo night and chatpate night but also plan to introduce new events and collaborations. Just this year we have started new collaborations with the Hindu society, collaborated with many different Nepalese societies across London to organise inter-uni events and have even joined and played in the teamUCL 5-a-side World Cup tournament.

I believe that leading the society for another year, with my experience as president already, will allow me to bring our community even closer together.
