I am deeply passionate about fostering a vibrant and inclusive musical community. Having experienced firsthand the power of music to bring people together as the welfare/volunteering officer last year, I want to help create more opportunities for students to collaborate, perform, and grow as musicians. With my organizational skills and enthusiasm, I aim to support the committee in expanding our events, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that every member feels valued and inspired. I hope to make Music Society a welcoming and inclusive society for all!
Who am I and what do I actually do in Music Soc?
HI! I’m Sohan, I am a 1st year med student, and this year I have been singing bass in Chamber Choir and Symphony Chorus.
Why am I standing in one sentence?
Because I LOVE MUSIC SOC!!
Music Soc has been the highlight of my year. It has been my escape from the dullness of Y1 med school, and it has been a little haven for me to crawl back to a couple of times a week so that I can keep chugging on. I spend more time on the music soc gc than in my lectures, and now I can give back as VP.
I AM:
- Committed to supporting the president and treasurer in their plans for the society as a whole
- Committed to supporting ensemble leaders in organising rehearsals and concerts
- Most importantly, I am committed to ensuring every single member of UCL Music Society feels welcome, supported, accepted and valued
What I want to do
- Improve the social calendar, with more crossover social events between different ensembles
- More fresher events throughout the year
- More collaboration with other music/arts societies within (e.g. RUMS music, Musical Theatre Society)
- Build the foundations for collaboration with ensembles external to UCL (London University’s Varsity Showdown Concert coming soon?!?)
- Bring back the scholarships
- GET COOL MERCH!!
MY SKILLS AND CREDENTIALS
- All the usual boring (but important) things that you put on a medicine personal statement (organisation, communication etc.)
- Simultaneously CC’s favourite “fresher” and favourite “postgrad”
- That’s about it
