Sophie Johns

Hey! I'm Sophie, a clarinet player and a dedicated member of the Concert Band since 2022. Since I will be entering my final year of MSci Pharmacology, I would really love to give back to this wonderful ensemble and continue the legacy of all the previous concert band managers :D
If you vote for me as your loyal successor, I will continue the battle for a concert in Bloomsbury Theatre, be open to repertoire suggestions to keep up the fun, and (most importantly) keep the biscuit supply well-stocked! I am familiar with how concert band is run because I have been a member from the very first taster session since I joined UCL, and the ensemble has been a central part of my time at UCL so far. I have also taken on the roles of Treasurer, Vice President, Charities Officer and Social Media Officer in other societies in previous years, so I also have experience on society committees and with various SU affairs.
I would also really like to introduce socials and casual rehearsals/jam sessions in Term 3 to continue the fun, explore more repertoire, and give members more opportunities to meet outside the rehearsal room.
I am very approachable, so will always be ready to listen and signpost for any concerns you may have, and will overall make sure to keep the good vibes :) I hope to receive your votes and that you have a good dayyy! 🎶🎶🎶

Elyas Brice

UCL’s wonderful concert band has been part of my life for 3 years now and it has always made me feel part of a family! I've really enjoyed making friends and getting to know people, and I want to give back by promoting a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. I regularly perform drums and percussion for music concerts and musical theatre shows - I have demonstrated my thorough organisation and social skills and I'll use these skills to ensure that rehearsals, concerts and socials run smoothly!

I will work towards having a social during both reading weeks and at the end of terms, as an opportunity to make new friends outside of our usual rehearsal! I would also encourage as many people as possible to come to the IOE bar after rehearsals for some socialisation and chat, non-drinkers and drinkers alike, as it's a fantastic opportunity to talk to people you wouldn't normally talk to during rehearsal!

I'd also love to push for some smaller scale rehearsals/socials during term 3, so that you can drop by and relieve the stress and pressures of exams by having fun and playing some wonderful music! Finally, I believe that UCL is so lucky to have such a diverse student base with a whole host of musical experiences, so I’d love to tap into that wealth of knowledge and experience so we can select and play music that is exciting and relatable, for example, choosing pieces based on recent movies/shows/plays and performing works by more female and ethnic minority composers!

Anna Drhovská

My name is Anna Drhovská, a first year Biomedical Science student, and I am excited to nominate myself for Concert Band Manager of the upcoming academic year. My love for music inspires me to create a welcoming environment for all musicians. I really appreciate the value of friendly leadership, open communication, and a lively social atmosphere and am eager about the opportunity to keep cultivating these qualities next year !

With experience in orchestral organization, concert event management, and show production, I have developed skills in rehearsal coordination with overcoming logistical challenges. My goal is to make scheduling easy, performances smooth, and ensure every player feels valued and excited to be part of the group.

I've had so much fun this year in Concert Band, playing enjoyable music and making friends, and I want to do everything I can to keep it fun. This includes embracing both classical and modern repertoire while ensuring everyone's input is valued. I also believe ensembles are about more than just performing - they build a sense of community. I strive to support suggestions for social events, such as themed weeks, which have been successful in the past !

I will use my dedication and enthusiasm to make the Concert Band an enjoyable experience for everyone. I would be honoured to have your support on this journey, and if you have any questions about this, please come talk to me about them in a rehearsal or afterwards at the pub ❤️
