My past year as Head of Sewing has been formative and I intend to give back to this society more than I have taken from it as an Editor-in-Chief. Organising the Metamorphosis show and managing 130+ people, gave me skills vital for an EIC and allowed me to channel my love of fashion outside of my wardrobe.
To overcome roadblocks that come with large productions, I learned the committee’s administrative process, working with the Heads of Modelling and Production and the current EIC to launch the mag. I tracked moving parts, created backup plans, and negotiated to solve problems on my feet, staying accountable to strict deadlines and ensured we addressed everyone's needs.
Outside of MODO, I’ve worked for a children’s newspaper and understand how to edit, write engaging pieces, and do layout using InDesign software, while adhering to real-world publishing deadlines. I’ve also designed and photographed for multiple fashion shoots and personal projects.
As Editor in Chief, I’ll maintain our consistent publishing schedule and include more people in the publication, and create transparency by hosting socials and bi-monthly meetings to brainstorm and support writers. I’ll introduce new coverage like short pieces meant for social media to establish new writers, a MODO mag podcast, and hold open calls to feature deep coverage of UCL designers’ work in shoots. Through covering campus street fashion and smaller design projects, I'll platform raw and authentic fashion visions on campus.
